Press Release 4 December 2015

Preparation for the Big Futures Show on 20 April 2016 at the Winter Garden in Eastbourne is well under way.

The Big Futures Show will offer a mix of education, training and employment exhibitors and interactive displays. The design of the show and all the Winter Garden’s facilities will ensure that students meet exhibitors in a professional exhibition environment.

Businesses, colleges and training providers, both local and national, have already shown a great deal of interest so that allocated space is now turning into firm bookings. Businesses will find it easier to support one high quality regional event rather than being asked to support many small events by individual schools. Surely it wont be too long before we have a full house.

With a catchment across southern East Sussex the Big Futures Show, aimed at 14 to 16 year old students and others considering their future, will reach many thousands of potential visitors. Schools are receiving their invites now and those wishing to bring groups are advised to book early to get the time slot of their choice.

Far from simply ticking the box either for the Ofsted requirement to ensure ‘students are provided with high quality careers information and are fully aware of their choices following education’ or the DFE “Careers guidance and inspiration in schools” statutory guidance the Big Futures Show will provide students with meaningful material to help them make very important decisions about their future. Visiting students will be provided with a combined preparation pack and show guide prior to the event with lesson plans and additional content created specially for Big Futures Show. Instead of taking home a bag of freebies after the show each student will be provided with material designed to help them summarise their visit.

A recent report by The Future Leaders Trust recently highlighted the challenges faced by coastal schools related to geographical, economic and cultural factors. Across our region students often miss out from the benefit of national employability and skills events that are difficult to access. The Big Futures Show will bring the benefits of these events to East Sussex students considering their futures.
